The Flowing Continuum — Studio Point 5’s Timeless Narrative in Chengdu Forte Island Residence
In the private residence at Chengdu’s Forte Financial Island, Studio Point 5 translates its design philosophy into a dual movement of “Preface” and “Action.”
The Preface establishes a Timeless design principle—extending a unified material language to sustain continuity and spatial flow.
The Action, in turn, unfolds through soft furnishing and curation, orchestrating a living narrative of emotion and everyday ritual.
Founder Momo Dong explains:
“I hope to preserve individuality within the home, without creating a boundary between the residence and the city.
A true home is not merely a container of peace and comfort, but a vessel of vitality—where the details of daily life and the pulse of the city coexist naturally within one field.”
Across the residence, functional spaces are composed as a continuum of living, rather than isolated zones.
To describe this spirit, the design borrows two Spanish words—Sobremesa and Tertulia—each embodying a different dimension of connection.
Sobremesa: The Warmth After Dining
At the entrance, a Cassina Infinito shelf quietly stands as a prelude—its layers displaying ceramics and artifacts collected from the owners’ travels, whispering fragments of memory.
Through the shelving, a subtle depth unfolds—a restrained sense of mystery that invites exploration while maintaining ambiguity, allowing the rhythm of space to oscillate between concealment and revelation.
Sobremesa refers to the lingering moments after a meal, when conversation flows freely and time softens.
A bold red Porro piece and a Wästberg pendant mirror one another—dramatic in scale, yet mellowed by the warmth of light.
In that moment, the temperature of home quietly surfaces: even after the dishes are cleared, the residents linger to talk, confide, and reflect—a gentle celebration of leisure and the unhurried pleasures of living.
Tertulia: The Soft Light of Thought
Tertulia embodies the idea that thought becomes gentle in the vessel of friendship.
Here, the living area and kitchen island share a fluid boundary, connected by a seamless continuation of material and texture—a flowing continuity that dissolves divisions between function and form.
A Mario Bellini modular sofa in pale beige sets a calm foundation.
A low stone table echoes its tone, while across the diagonal, a vivid blue Ribbon Chair interrupts the order—introducing a playful rhythm into the composition.
The Ligne Roset Togo Fireside Chair anchors the scene, both as a physical weight and a visual pause—restrained, contemplative, yet softly radiant under natural light.
In the background, a surfboard and sculpture serve as notes from the city and nature—creating a quiet balance between structure and spontaneity.
Bedroom: The Stroke of Time
The bedroom continues the home’s warm, tactile atmosphere.
A fabric headboard in beige pairs with fine-textured wallpaper, their layers gently illuminated by daylight.
Here, sunlight becomes the most delicate brushstroke—its shifting folds of shadow replacing ornamentation, allowing time itself to inhabit the space in the most natural way.
